History of the Trust
1965 - 2014
The ownership of the Mill was transferred to the L.B. Havering when the greater London Council was established in 1965. During the following 45 years the Council and a group of volunteers jointly managed the Mill and the site.
Both parties recognised that the work undertaken was insufficient to arrest the gradual decline to the fabric of the Mill. In 2000 a feasibility study was undertaken which set the path towards a restoration plan.
A Trust was set up to oversee the strategic project and a Friends group was formed to open the Mill to visitors and to do running repairs. The Trust evolved and a close relationship was then established with sponsors and today plans are underway to complete the restoration.
