Welcome to the windmill, visitor centre and garden. The Friends of Upminster Windmill are volunteers who conserve the site, maintain the working windmill and operate it as a heritage attraction, educational facility and community resource.

Upminster Windmill was built for James Nokes, a local farmer, in 1803. It is a Grade II* listed building and in terms of quality, completeness and significance is widely considered to be one of the finest remaining English smock mills.

WINDMILL WHIRL-OFF

A fun and friendly international celebration of windmill sail rotation … because keeping windmills turning is keeping heritage alive.

We’re delighted to have partnered with mills across the UK, the Netherlands and Germany in a fun and friendly competition to see whose sails turn the most.
